Arash, an Iranian intellectual who lives in the West, returns home to teach at a university in Chiraz. However, he runs into trouble with the university because of his progressive ideas. Coming from a respectable family whose eldest son died a martyr during the Khomeini regime, Arash finds it difficult to get used to being back in Iran, feeling that he no longer recognizes the country. He decides to leave, but first goes to Tehran, where his parents live, to visit his father in the hospital. Shortly after his father passes away, Arash discovers unspeakable family secrets.
