Soon after Beverly Weston (Sam Shepard) hires a young Native American woman to look after his wife, Violet (Meryl Streep), who has mouth cancer, he goes missing. His daughters (Julia Roberts, Julianne Nicholson, Juliette Lewis and their families come home to provide support their mother, a woman who is non-stop nasty, possibly due to her addiction to prescription drugs. After the funeral, during dinner with her extended family, she can’t stop criticizing everyone at the table and finally, she pushes too far, prompting her eldest daughter Barbara to take action. Over the course of the next few days, dark family secrets come to light and shocking revelations are made. This dark comedy is based on the Pulitzer Prize award-winning play by Tracy Letts.
