A year in the life of a brown bear family as two impressionable young cubs are taught life’s most important lessons. Set against a majestic Alaskan backdrop, their journey begins as winter comes to an end and their mother emerges from hibernation with her two youngsters in tow, to get some nourishment. The world outside is exciting, but risky. The cubs—a male and a female—learn about threats in their world and how to keep up with their mother. The boy is more adventurous, straying far while their mother fishes, but the girl stays close by. Their mother fiercely protects them from male bears and an annoying wolf, while teaching them how to find food wherever they can get it, including the bears’ favorite food—salmon. The mother and the other bears works hard to gain weight before the winter comes again and they have to return to hibernation.
