In his apartment in a poor Lima neighborhood, Clemente operates a small pawn shop, like his father before him. Taciturn and fiercely independent, he regularly visits prostitutes rather than forming a bond with a woman. One day, one of the prostitutes enters his home while he’s away and leaves him the baby he fathered with her. After clumsy attempts to deal with the newborn girl, Clemente hires a neighbor, Sofia, to take care of her while he searches for the mother. The arrival of Sofia and the baby in his life cause Clemente to ponder about the emotional attachments he has never had.
