Father O’Malley (Bing Crosby) is sent to help St. Mary’s Academy, a run-down, financially-strapped school run by nun Sister Benedict (Ingrid Bergman). Father O’Malley’s duty is to recommend whether or not the school should be shut down and have the students sent to a more modern school. With their hopes that God will provide for them, the sisters of the school all believe the students should stay. Father O’Malley agrees, but his conflicting views with Sister Benedict lead to the two having several arguments. When wealthy businessman Horace P.
