Didier, a banjo player in a bluegrass band, and Elise, a tattoo artist, feel an attraction for each another. Shortly after the beginning of their romance, Elise realizes she’s pregnant. Didier is initially furious, but he soon accepts the fact that he’s going to be a father. Elise joins his band and soon, they welcome baby Maybelle into their lives. Five years later, when they learn that their daughter is suffering from spinal cord cancer, Didier and Elise find their love put to the test when they have to decide whether or not to let Madeline go through a series of long and painful treatments in a desperate attempt to save her life.
