Crippled by debt, Jaafar, a Palestinian fisherman in Gaza, is unable to sell the few small fish he manages to catch. One day, he’s surprised to find a pig in his nets, fallen from a cargo ship. Thanks to this astonishing catch, he finally sees a way out of poverty, to provide a better life for his wife. After several unsuccessful attempts to sell the pig, Jafaar contacts Yelena, an Israeli of Russian descent. An illegal pig breeder, the young woman is willing to pay for the animal’s sperm. But Jaafar has a hard time hiding the pig on his boat, and later in his house.
